Dessert Fruit Kabobs

Yield: 6 servings

Something Sweet on a stick

  • 2 navel oranges, sliced ½ inch thick
  • 1 seedless pink grapefruit, sliced ½ inch thick.
  • 1 small honeydew melon, sliced ½ inch thick, rind removed
  • 12 unpeeled apple wedges
  • 2 bananas, cut in 1 inch slices
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • ½ teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 tablespoon butter or margarine
Cut orange and grapefruit slices into quarters; cut melon slices into equivalent size wedges. Spear an apple wedge on each of six skewers, then alternate with wedges of grapefruit, bananas, orange and melon; repeat. Set aside. Mix brown sugar, water and cloves in a saucepan. Stir over medium heat and bring to a boil, stirring until clear and thickened. Remove from heat, stir in butter and spoon over fruit kabobs. Place skewers with fruit on grill and cook 5 – 6 minutes, rotating and basting with syrup. Serve hot as a dessert. Save remaining sauce for dunking.
