Yield: 6 servings
Something Sweet on a stick
- 2 navel oranges, sliced ½ inch thick
- 1 seedless pink grapefruit, sliced ½ inch thick.
- 1 small honeydew melon, sliced ½ inch thick, rind removed
- 12 unpeeled apple wedges
- 2 bananas, cut in 1 inch slices
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup water
- ½ teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 tablespoon butter or margarine
Cut orange and grapefruit slices into quarters; cut melon slices into equivalent size wedges. Spear an apple wedge on each of six skewers, then alternate with wedges of grapefruit, bananas, orange and melon; repeat. Set aside. Mix brown sugar, water and cloves in a saucepan. Stir over medium heat and bring to a boil, stirring until clear and thickened. Remove from heat, stir in butter and spoon over fruit kabobs. Place skewers with fruit on grill and cook 5 – 6 minutes, rotating and basting with syrup. Serve hot as a dessert. Save remaining sauce for dunking.
