The batteries used in this spotlight are lead acid batteries, similar to a car battery. They do not have a memory problem like NiCad batteries. Lead acid batteries do like to be stored in the charged condition. If these batteries are stored for very long in the discharged condition, they can be damaged and may not charge back up. A charged battery should keep its charge for a year or so depending on storage temperatures, etc.
